Why Rules of Thumb
Built for the Cockpit
Real aviation mental methods. The way professional pilots actually calculate.
✈️
Real Aviation Formulas
Every calculation reflects actual cockpit mental methods — crosswind, TAS, descent planning, pressure altitude, ISA deviation.
🧠
Type Your Answer
Master mode requires typing your answer within tolerance — just like a real checkride. No multiple choice at the highest levels.
📈
Progress Tracking
Accuracy per game, per level, per session. See exactly where you struggle and when you're ready to advance.
Challenge Mode
Master Plus Challenge delivers questions via notifications over 10 hours — simulating real in-flight decision pressure.
🏆
30 Badges
Speed, streaks, accuracy, daily consistency, challenge completions. Earn bronze, silver, and gold banner status.
📚
Rule Book
Full formula reference always available. Every rule explained with examples — works offline, opens from any quiz screen.
Six Games
Every Formula You Need
Six aviation calculation categories covering the formulas student pilots use daily.
CONVERSIONS
Use conversions to switch between units like feet, meters, and nautical miles. Accurate conversions help ensure safe and efficient flights.
NM ↔ Km/h ↔ M/s
KG ↔ LBS · Fuel units
SM ↔ NM ↔ KM
CROSSWIND COMPONENT
Calculate the crosswind component during landing to determine how much wind is affecting the aircraft from the side. This helps them choose the correct landing technique and maintain safe control of the aircraft.
CW = WS × angle factor
0–15° → ×0.25
61°+ → ×1.0
DRIFT CORRECTION ANGLE
Applying the proper correction helps ensure accurate navigation and efficient flight.
SF = IAS ÷ 60
DCA = CW ÷ SF
Minimum 2°
TRUE AIRSPEED
Accurate true airspeed calculations improve flight planning, navigation, and fuel management.
TAS = IAS + (IAS × 2% × alt÷1000)
Always ≥ IAS
SPEED, DISTANCE & ALTITUDE
Accurate calculations help ensure proper navigation, fuel management, and compliance with flight procedures.
SF = GS ÷ 60
Distance = Time × SF
ROD = AltDiff ÷ Time
PRESSURE ALTITUDE
use pressure altitude to determine aircraft performance
PA = (1013−QNH)×30 + Elev
ISA = 15−(2×elev÷1000)
DA = PA+120×(OAT−ISA)
Four Levels
Your Path to Mastery
Progress at your own pace. All levels always available.

Focus Areas
What to Test
🎯
Formula Accuracy
Are the mental calculation rules correct for real flying? Report any formula that feels wrong or impractical.
Timer Feel
Does 30 seconds feel right at each level? Too easy, too tight, or just right for each game type?
📱
UI & Navigation
Anything confusing, hard to tap, or missing? Any crashes or unexpected behaviour during sessions?
📊
Difficulty Curve
Does Learning → Training → Master feel natural? Where does it get frustrating or too easy?
🏆
Badges & Progress
Do badge requirements feel fair and motivating? Is the progress screen useful and accurate?
💡
Missing Content
Any aviation calculations you use regularly that aren't covered? Anything that should be added or changed?
